Infiniti is attending the Frankfurt Motor Show for the first time ever, this year. In their opening remarks, they professed their love for curves, their continuous quest to develop perfect lines, and their passion for performance.
Infiniti's timing is not by accident. The luxury automaker is using the Frankfurt Motor Show as a platform to share their brand, and set the Infiniti brand apart from the competition. Their ultimate goal is growth.
Specifically, Nissan's luxury arm is aiming to take 10 percent of luxury segments worldwide, by 2016. Not accounting for future inflation levels, that equates to approximately 500,000 units/models.
Coinciding with their not-so-stealth plans to take a fair chunk of market share away from their luxe competitors in the next five years, Infiniti will expand their lineup in different geo markets around the world. According to Shiro Nakumura, CCO, Infiniti, the lineup will also grow by 10 models by 2012. That averages to over two new models per year.
While Infiniti did not divulge an exact roadmap the company would take to achieve such aggressive goals, Nakumura did explain that Infiniti would achieve their lofty goals by doing what they excel most at - namely developing new technologies and appealing to drivers' individuality. For example, they're planning to launch a new zero-emission luxury sedan, just three years down the line. To emphasize just how serious they are about bringing the EV into production, Infiniti even went so far as to bring a sketch of the vehicle to the show.
